The short answer

MaxxLook is an iPhone app that analyzes your face from six photos, gives you an overall score and area scores, builds a daily plan, and lets you ask an assistant called Ask Maxx about your results. Your first scan is free. These are the questions people ask most, grouped by topic.

About MaxxLook

What is MaxxLook?

MaxxLook is an iPhone app for personalized beauty analysis. You take six guided photos, and it measures your face, gives you an overall score and area scores, ranks the changes most worth testing, and builds a daily plan. You can browse hair, brow, makeup and beard looks in Try On, ask questions of an assistant called Ask Maxx, and re-scan to see what changed. Try On renders on your own photo are not switched on yet. Your first scan is free.

Is MaxxLook available on Android?

MaxxLook is currently an iPhone app, available on the App Store. We have not announced an Android version.

Who is MaxxLook for?

MaxxLook is for adults 18 and older who want specific, testable ideas for how they present: hair, brows, facial hair, skin habits and styling. It is an appearance-focused measurement and planning tool, not a medical or dermatological service.

How many photos does a scan need?

Six: a front view, left and right profiles, left and right quarter views, and a smile. An on-screen face outline helps you frame each one the same way. A rejected or failed photo set does not use up your free scan.

Is this a medical or dermatological assessment?

No. MaxxLook does not diagnose conditions and is not a substitute for a physician or dermatologist. It is an appearance-focused measurement and planning tool for adults 18 and older.

Scores and accuracy

Do I get a score?

Yes: an overall score from 0 to 100 and a score for each area it can measure (up to nine), built from 170+ measurements of your photos against a reference range for your age range, sex and ethnicity. Your percentile appears only when at least 30 comparable analyses exist. Areas we can’t score from a photo yet, like hair and makeup, and skin for now, stay unscored rather than guessed. A score is a reading of your photos, not a judgment of your worth, and each one comes with what drives it and what to try first.

Does MaxxLook rate how attractive I am?

No. MaxxLook scores measurements of your photos, such as proportions and symmetry, against a reference group. It never gives a hot-or-not verdict, never compares you with a celebrity, friend or any named person, and Ask Maxx will not tell you whether you are attractive. The score is a starting point for your plan, not a judgment of your worth.

Where do the reference ranges come from?

The same pipeline that measures your photos was run over a large openly licensed face-image corpus (FairFace, CC BY 4.0), keeping only near-frontal faces, to build each demographic group’s distribution. Skin and smile measurements stay exact-value-only until baselines exist under controlled capture conditions. The full derivation is on the transparency page.

How accurate is MaxxLook?

It is precise about what it measures and honest about what it cannot. Every test has a noise floor, and a change smaller than that is reported as within noise rather than as progress. That floor is derived from perturbation tests of photographs, not from a clinical test–retest study, so we treat it as provisional. Results also depend on your photos: lighting, camera angle and expression all move measurements, which is why the scan is guided. See how to take face scan photos.

What can’t MaxxLook measure from a photo?

Hair and makeup style cannot be measured from photos, so they are shown as unscored and handled by comparing looks side by side in Try On. Skin is measured but not scored until skin reference ranges exist. Hydration, fine lines, elasticity and rosacea are not measured at all and never appear as readings.

Privacy and data

What happens to my photos and data?

Analysis photos are encrypted in transit and at rest and kept as the privacy policy describes. Weekly skin-check photos are measured in memory and discarded. You can withdraw consent or delete your account from inside the app at any time, and the privacy policy explains how to request a copy of your data.

Does a person review my photos?

No. Every analysis runs end to end in software: photo checks, measurements, reference comparisons and the report. There is no review queue and no human reviewer, and MaxxLook never implies otherwise.

Try On and Ask Maxx

What does Try On do with my photo?

Nothing yet: renders on your own photo are not switched on, so Try On sends no photo today. Once they are, Try On will send your front photo to our image-generation provider only after you give it a separate yes inside the app. Every result will be an AI rendering, labeled in the app as a rendering, limited per day and deletable from Settings. The privacy policy names the provider and what it receives. More on the Try On page.

What does Ask Maxx know about me?

Ask Maxx is the in-app assistant. It reads your scores, your plan, your stated goals and preferences, and your recent chat turns so its answers are grounded in your own analysis. It never receives your photos, your age, your gender or your ethnicity. More on the Ask Maxx page.

Is Ask Maxx a real person?

No. Ask Maxx is software, and MaxxLook never implies a human stylist is answering. Today its replies come from fixed templates built on your results; replies written by an AI model are not switched on yet. Questions it recognizes as medical, or as a sign of distress, get a fixed, human-written response.

Pricing
